Introduction to what we did Spring Break 2019

Over spring break 2019, both of us Hannahs had an opportunity to be part of the Rockport, Texas rebuild phase after Hurricane Harvey. This trip was part of the crisis communication class which is a study away program at Tarleton State University. We not only had a week to rebuild houses with the organization, Samaritan’s Purse, but we were also charged with the task of creating a project based off of an aspect of the trip that had an impact on us. For us, (Hannah H and Hannah E), the people we served alongside the whole week had a tremendous influence on our experience. The leaders we worked along side with gave us a clear depiction of what service leadership looks like.

Although our tribe of 17 communications majors were not the typical religious group Samaritan’s Purse is/was accustom to working with, they embraced our extraverted group with open arms and lots of patience the week of March 8-15th, 2019. In the next few posts we want to shed light on who we met, and share conversations with some of the Sam’s Purse staff we were inspired by.

One takeaway we urge our readers to get from these next few posts is that Rockport still needs our support. Volunteers are still needed and there’s still a chance for you to make an impact. If you’re interested in being a part of the rebuild you can volunteer online at https://www.samaritanspurse.org/what-we-do/volunteer/.

If you are not able to physically volunteer, sharing this blog and raising awareness of the need is also a huge help.
